To Whom it may concern
I have been informed about a project by Mr. Gerd Meuer concerning the digitalization of documents concerning Nobel Literature Prize Winner Wole Soyinka which have been collected privately by Mr. Meuer.
I have known Mr. Gerd Meuer for more than 40 years when we both worked in the Africa Service of Deutsche Welle, and I consider him as the most knowledgeable person in Germany on the subject of Wole Soyinka. He has not only known Mr. Soyinka personally since his student days in Ibadan but also been in contact with him throughout his life as a personal friend, as a journalist, as a translator and as an organizer of cultural events inside and outside Germany.
The publication of the materials in Mr. Meuers possession would most probably throw an important additional light on the life and achievements of Mr. Wole Soyinka not only as an outstanding writer, but also as a person in public life and in African politics.
I therefore advocate strongly to give all possible financial support to the project of digitalization of Mr. Meuers materials.
